“Food Critic Writing Camp is so much fun that I forgot all about TV for the whole week.  It’s a great way to spend part of your summer – be a Food Critic and learn how to make delicious snacks at this camp!”

Ryanne, 5th Grade

Experience what it is like to be a food critic in a writing camp designed to INSPIRE and ROCK YOUR WRITING SENSES!  Students learn how to both design and edit a Food Critic magazine, while they also learn how to create a fresh and healthy snack each day.

In this camp we want students to experience writing in a new way.  A way that enhances each students senses and helps them organize their thoughts.  The conversations that these students have, the decisions that they will make, and the power of words and expression that they will choose … are the focus of this Food Critic Writing Camp.

We only have 5 days in this camp to inspire and develop the author within your student so we really have to enhance their experience to make it stick.  You have our promise that this course is designed to feel like a camp, with a focused curriculum that enhances written expression.  But your kids have our promise that it is disguised in delicious food that tantalizes and excites the senses.

As teachers, we want this writing camp to be fun so we designed it to be inspiring.  We keep it simple, delicious, and focused because summertime writing at Learning Foundations is all about experiencing and exploring fancy words in an organized and intentional way.  No red pens allowed.

As coaches, all year long we see first-hand how critical organized expression is in so many ways.  From conceptual math to standardized tests and, in an ever-advancing world of technology, the power of language and communication is even more important because we constantly express our thoughts in email, text, tweet or social media.

As the owner of Learning Foundations, I can honestly say that both of my boys, extreme critics of writing over the summer, have participated in these writing camps.  They admit that they truly learned and had a good experience and, by my surprise, their teachers often tell me how well they write.  I really do credit it to the fact that they experienced writing in a more enhanced way that deepened their learning and excited their senses.

In 5-days kids produce awesome writing that focuses on their ability to express through their “taste-bud explosions” and the powerful feelings that burst from within them.  They also practice innovative and collaborative work in a small and structured group.  At the end of the week, they develop into leaders who will share a take-home Food Critic magazine that focuses on descriptive, persuasive, and informative writing skills and really gives them a chance to really show their craft and their workmanship.
